A: BRIDGE means Building Responsible Individuals through Discipline Guidance and Education. |
Q: What is BRIDGE?
A: Five-day structured program for youth and adults wanting to finish high school.
Four days a week of workshops that teach basic life skills, job readiness skills and community involvement.
Assistance in referral to jobs
Assistance with enrollment in training program that leads to certificate or license. |

Q: Who can benefit from the BRIDGE program?
A: Clients who are high risk for unemployment and underemployment due to lack of literacy, school drop out, homelessness, early pregnancy, multiple children, single parent, poor family, unstable family background, low self-esteem, problems with substance abuse, criminal record, multiple family problems, responsible for caring for sick parent or grandparent, learning disability, majority raised in single parent household, no reliable support system.
Youth 16-21 years old
Dependent on someone else for support
Adults 18-40+ years old
Living independently. Self –supporting. Parent. |
Q: What are the eligibility requirements for enrollment?
A: BRIDGE services are open to residents of Mecklenburg County between the age of 16 and up. All program participants must exhibit an economic or educational disadvantages, have multiple risk factors for dropping out of school or retaining a job, and cannot be assisted by other services in the community. |
Q: When does BRIDGE meet?
A: Teens meet 5 days a week (Monday – Friday)
Adults meet 3 days a week (Tuesday,Wednesday,Thursday) |

Q: What are some of the volunteer opportunities available with your program?
A: Tutor: Assist students with skill development (math, english) and computer skills.
Speakers’ Bureau: Volunteers on the Speakers’ Bureau give presentations in the community on behalf of the organization. All members of the board of directors are members of the speakers’ bureau.
Administrative Assistant: Administrative volunteers assist the staff with various office duties such as filing, coping, and data entry.
Lab Assistant: The lab assistant helps students int he computer lab. |
Q: How much can my donation help?
A: We are a no-frills program. Money goes toward salaries of staff that spend most of their day in direct contract with the clients. Most telephone time is directly related to talking to clients or getting services for clients. Most copy paper is used for client materials. |
